Midnight Snacks Can Sabotage Your Diet

September 29th, 2009 admin No comments

Do you know that midnight snacks can sabotage your diet? Sudeep Chand explains in ‘Eating Late at Night Adds Weight’ that late-night snackers are more likely to gain weight.

It is quite an interesting fact to know that our body’s internal clock is fixed at certain rhythm on how to expend our energy. It means if we keep an eating pattern that is not in   accordance with our body’s internal clock, it can lead us to gaining weight.

This theory is even supported by their experiment. There was a case study of two groups of mice and they were fed with high fat diet for six weeks. The first group of the mice was fed during their normal waking cycle while the second group was fed at the time when they should normally be sleeping.

The result shows that the second group added more weight than the first group. In fact, they almost doubled their weight despite of the same level of activity and amount of food.

This study somehow fortifies the logic behind the “no-meal-after-six” diet or Oprah’s advised not to eat at least three hours before we sleep.  So put off your desire to munch for any delectable midnight snack and let it wait until tomorrow. Delay your food gratification at night and you avoid putting on weight!
